Emon Columbus Perdue

Emon C. Perdue was Newt's and John's Father. He passed away after battling 3 years of cancer on Dec 27, 2002. He loved to attend the Padre games. He's went to the Padres as a season box holder for at least 29 years. He even had his picture on the Fan Magazine that they hand out at the stadium, a real fan! (I don't think they have put a fan on the magazine since!) The San Diego Union Tribute did a nice tribute to him on January 1, 2003.

He was a veteran of World World II and served over two years in the Aleutian Islands at Dutch Harbor, Unalaska with the 206th Coastal Artillery Regiment and in France. He barely escaped with his life as he was wounded in the Rhineland and received the Purple Heart for wounds received on November 18, 1944. Lucky for me he survived or I'd not be here! We will miss him greatly!

I've posted pictures that Dad had in a battered old photo album of his stay in the Aleutian Islands and some of his training at Fort Bliss, Texas in 1941. Click here to see the photos. Dad survived the only attack by the axis forces on our hemisphere on June 3 and 4th, 1942. Dad always spoke negatively of his stay there. The cold, the wind, the incompetence of the command, the mountains, the boredom and the alcohol consumption (which he did a fair amount himself.), not to mention the pretty rotten food. Later in my life, whenever I'd point out a particulary beautiful snowy mountain scene, Dad wasn't impressed. All Dad could think about was the miserable stay in similar mountains in the Aleutian Islands during the war.

Dad as a typical kid of the 1920's. He would have been a great extra in the "Our Gang Comedies"!

Right before he went into the Army! Almost as good looking as I was!

Dad on one of his leave period from the Army to Mexico!

Then came the responsibilities. Me and my Dad on my brand new Schwinn THREE speed bike! Notice the black and white Flexible Flyer in the lower left! Boy that was fun to ride!

With the love of his Life, Madeline, Mom!
