Virtual Landscape, Winter Hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park

1994

Virtual Landscape was designed to give the viewer an "immersive" experience in visiting a beautiful natural environment. I choose Rocky Mountain National Park since it was close to us. It was also winter, so I decided to try my hand at photography and snowshoeing! I spent three months doing the photography (I'd take 4 to 6 images at a spot on a trail, move on a few hundred feet and take another set. This was before QTVR was available.) I then spent about 6 months doing the programming in 'c' using the Macintosh Toolbox. I did the entire project myself and received good reviews in national magazines (Byte Magazine gave it 4 stars!). Unfortunately, it was programmed only for the Macintosh and that limited my market. I still lacked a good cross-platform tool.
